DPM Forward: Introducing AI-Assisted Engineering at DPM

A Practical, Engineer-Led Approach

Over recent months, DPM Consulting Group has been carefully piloting the use of artificial intelligence within selected engineering workflows. This has been a deliberate, controlled process embedded within real projects, not experimental testing. Our focus has been on understanding where AI can genuinely support engineering practice while maintaining the technical rigour, professional judgement, and accountability expected of consulting engineers.

Introducing DPM Forward

Following this period of testing and refinement, we are now introducing DPM Forward. This is DPM’s considered approach to using AI as a supporting tool within engineering workflows, guided by clear intent, transparency, and professional oversight. It is not about automation for its own sake, but about strengthening how engineering work is delivered, reviewed, and communicated.

Why We Are Taking This Step

AI is already embedded in many of the tools used across the engineering industry. The key challenge is not whether AI will be used, but how it is introduced and governed within regulated professional practice.

At DPM, our position is clear:

  • AI should assist engineers, not replace them
  • Engineering judgement must remain central
  • Accountability must sit with qualified professionals
  • AI outputs must be reviewable, explainable, and defensible

DPM Forward defines where AI can add value and where it must not be relied upon. Clear boundaries, review processes, and responsibility remain firmly with DPM engineers, ensuring quality and trust are never compromised.

Looking Ahead

DPM Forward is not about speed at any cost. It is about using new tools with intent, discipline, and professional care to strengthen the quality and defensibility of our engineering outcomes. As AI continues to evolve, we will continue to assess where it can responsibly support our work.

This is just the beginning of how DPM Forward will shape our engineering practice. Watch this space.
